How to embed a Facebook post on WordPress

It happens time and again that you want to keep valuable resources gathered from Facebook in a central place. Using your WordPress blog for this is ideal because it makes your collection of posts easier to share. Here are instructions to embed a post from Facebook on WordPress.

To embed a Facebook post or video on WordPress can be difficult if you are intimidated by code. You may face the following challenges:

  • You are not fimilliar with the structure of a webpage
  • You are not registered on WordPress with at least the role of Editor (or Super Admin on Multisite)
  • You do not have access to WordPress’s theme files

If you have no problem with the above, proceed to embed a post by following these steps:

  1. Edit the header.php file in your WordPress theme and add the Javascript SDK ideally right after the opening <body> tag:

  2. Go to the post on Facebook you want to embed.
  3. In the right hand top corner of the post click on the drop-down arrow to reveal a drop-down menu.
  4. Choose “More options” and then “Embed post”
  5. Copy and paste the given code
  6. Edit a post in WordPress and switch to Text view
  7. Paste the code and publish the post

What social media is really about

When asked what consumers want from brands, knowledge and entertainment soared to the top of the list. Additionally, The GlobalWebIndex Wave 5 Trends report tells us that online consumers want brands to provide services that fit with their lifestyle. They also want brands to listen to them.
What can we learn of this?

1) Businesses must first realize that there’s more to social media than just managing an active presence, driven by an active editorial calendar. Listening is key and within each conversation lies a clue to earn relevance and ultimately establish leadership.

2) Consumers want to be heard. Social media will have to break free form the grips of marketing in order to truly socialize the enterprise to listen, engage, learn, and adapt. You can’t create a social business if the business is not designed to be customer-centric from the outside-in and the inside-out.

3) Social media becomes an extension of active listening and engagement. Strategies, programs, and content are derivative of insights, catalysts for innovation, and messengers of value. More importantly, social media becomes a platform for the brand and the functions that consumers deem mandatory. From marketing to HR to service to R&D, brands will expand the role they play in social networking to make the acts of following and sharing an investment in a more meaningful relationship.

Ek sien vandag hierdie artikel op IOL Technology oor hoe sosiale media gebruik word om Neo-Nazi’s te beveg. DiĆ© wat sterk gekant is teen hierdie beweging het ‘n veldtog geloods waar gebruikers van sosiale media rasistiese of nazi-georiĆ«nteerde kommentaar kan rapporteer.

As basis van die veldtog is ‘n webwerf geskep. Aktiviste vir die veldtog plaas baniere en knoppies op hul eie webwerwe en op hul sosiale media profiele wat besoekers aanmoedig om rasistiese kommentaar, video’s en profiele aan te meld. Die veldtog is omvattend omdat dit bedryf word op 20 sosiale netwerke waaronder MySpace en YouTube.

Dit alles laat my dink aan Winston Churchill se toespraak op 4 Junie 1940:
